The Top ranked American Jessica Pegula lost to world number one Iga Świątek in straight sets, competing much better as the match wore on in the second set, but could not ultimately play her best tennis for most of that clash.
After trailing by a set 3-6, she forced the second set to go to a tie break. Both women had only managed to hold serve twice throughout that error-filled second set, and it was much of the same story in the breaker, where they played better attacking each other’s serves, but it was the world number one who showed up and took her chances when it mattered. She is through to the Semi Finals. Pegula lost 3-6 6-7.
