Astana Open 2022

Novak Djokovic has missed the tour and the tour has missed Novak Djokovic right back.

Since his return to the tour, he reached the final in Israel in Telaviv, where he beat a familiar friend and foe Marin Čilić; this was just last week – and at the Astana Open in Kazakhstan, a tournament which is played on indoor hard courts, originally scheduled in 2020 during the global Covid 19 pandemic to fill a gap, but has now become a permanent fixture on both the ATP and WTA as a 500 event; Djokovic met Daniil Medvedev and the two played quite a decent match as far as entertainment goes, the 2nd set tiebreak had all the drama with both players varying their shot-making, pulling each other in at the fore court with sneaky edge-of-the-seat drop shots, matching each other for pace and weight of shot as they ran down every ball, but it was the Serbian who needed the second set to go his way than the Russian, as he trailed by the opening set.

He leveled the match by winning the tiebreak 7-6(8-6) but Medvedev retired, sending Djokovic into Sunday’s final where he will meet Stefanos TsitsipasMedvedev chose to listen to his body as he said that he felt during that ongoing tie break, as though he was suffering from a cramp, but quickly realized that he may have pulled a muscle.

A speedy recovery to him.
